Our Story

Equipping the Called was founded in 2014 by Chris and Julie Tracy after they recognized the unique challenges children and families face during the foster care journey. As the parents of three children adopted internationally in 2011, 2012, and 2015, they developed a deep passion for caring for vulnerable children and began learning firsthand about the overwhelming realities foster families often encounter when children arrive with little notice and few belongings.

Moved by the need, Chris and Julie set out to create something different—a place where children entering foster and kinship care could experience more than simply receiving necessities. They envisioned a welcoming boutique where every child could shop with dignity, choose items that fit and reflect their personality, and be reminded that they are valued, loved, and supported by their community.

What began as a small ministry has grown into a community-wide effort powered by volunteers, churches, businesses, and faithful supporters. Today, Equipping the Called provides boutique shopping experiences, essential resources, scholarships, and practical support for children and caregivers throughout the foster and kinship community—all with one purpose: restoring dignity and reminding every child who walks through our doors that they matter.
